As you know Prasar Bharati completed the annual e-auction for both slots available on DD Free dish (MPEG-2 and MPEG-4). So we have tried to calculate available booked slots by private broadcasters on the DD Free dish platform. Understand our calculation below and see 7 DD channels may have to wait for new slots or Prasar Bharati may increase 7 new slots for board Doordarshan channels on the platform.

Currently channels available in MPEG-2 slots -

(for 1st April 2022 to 31st March 2023);

1. Allocated MPEG-2 slots for Private TV channels are = 65

2. Vacant MPEG-2 TV slots are = 1 (Test 520)

3. allocated MPEG-2 slots for Doordarshan channels are = 28

and Total Available MPEG-2 slots are = 94

Currently channels available in MPEG-4 slots -

(for 1st April 2022 to 31st March 2023);

1. Allocated MPEG-4 slots for Private TV channels are = 12

2. Vacant MPEG-4 TV slots are = 1 (Test 622)

3. allocated MPEG-4 slots for Doordarshan channels are = 9

and Total Available MPEG-4 slots are = 22

But now will be -

(for 1st April 2023 to 31st March 2024);

MPEG-2 slots may be -

1. Private TV channels booked MPEG-2 slots using the 67th e-auction = 65 Channels

2. Vacant MPEG-2 TV slots are = 1 (Test 520)

3. Already allocated MPEG-2 slots for Doordarshan channels are = 28

and Total Available MPEG-2 slots are = 94

MPEG-4 slots may be -

1. Private TV channels booked MPEG-4 slots using the 66th e-auction - 11 TV Channels

2. Already allocated MPEG-4 slots for Doordarshan channels are = 9

3. Currently vacant MPEG-4 TV slots are = 1 (Test 622), So 1 more slot will be vacant in the MPEG-4 slot.

Because Total Available MPEG-4 slots are = 22

Currently total vacant slots available -

  • Test 520 ( in MPEG-2 slot)
  • Test 622( in MPEG-4 slot)

So after 1st April 2023, one more slot will be vacant and a total of 3 vacant slots will be available to fill by Prasar Bharati.

Maybe 3 Vacant TV slots are still available? After 66th e-Auction for MPEG-4 slots, and 67th e-auction for MPEG-2 television slots for Private TV.

Note: It is not an actual calculation, it is just on basis of information available in the public domain about winners of private broadcasters. Officially not announced, the figures may be different.
